Car insurance is a legal requirement that all drivers have to adhere to, but there are other aspects that need to be taken into account by motorists looking to protect their various vehicles.
According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists, insuring your caravan is a sensible idea if you're going to be towing it along the roads, and there are a range of steps that need to be taken in order to do so effectively.
"First of all your car insurer needs to know that you are going to be towing," said Tim Shallcross, head of policy at the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
"It is also a very good idea to get the caravan itself insured."
Insurance brokers offer a variety of cover to drivers who need to insure their caravans, and with a Nissan survey revealing 38 per cent of people towing their caravans have had no training in doing so, such policies could be a vital investment.
